An integrated pan-European organisation
In order to address the new challenges and opportunities offered by globalisation, telecommunications and information technology, TINFOS Group has devised in 2002, with the support of Management Consultants, a strategy plan for its trading division.
Under this plan, TINFOS NIZI Luxembourg has become the focal point of the Group trading and distribution division. The sister companies in the world use the central services in Luxembourg for management, logistics, finance and human resource services. The measurements changed from country focus to cross-company customer segment focus. At the same time the trading and distribution division became a new corporate identity and operates since 2002 with the new name and brand TINFOS NIZI.
Finnfjord, Norway
In 2003 TINFOS NIZI has concluded a world-wide sales and marketing agreement with Finnfjord, the Norweigian producer of ferro-silicon. Within this agreement, Tinfos Nizi performs all activities linked to bringing the entire production of ferro-silicon into the market. The basis of the partnership is trust, transparency and sharing the added value. Finnfjord Smelteverk A/S, Norway was established in 1983. At the plant at Finnsnes in Northern Norway, Finnfjord is producing 100 000 MT/year ferro-silicon and 20 000 MT/year micro silica. The Finnfjord ferro-silicon plant is considered as one of the most efficient in Europe and is recognised as a quality producer.
Elsid, Romania
In 2004 TINFOS NIZI and ELSID S.A. concluded an extensive sales and marketing agreement. Under this agreement, Tinfos NIZI markets and sells ELSID's products in Western and Central European countries. ELSID S.A. Romania was established in 1968 as a state-owned company and became private in 2001. With a plant in each Slatina and Titu, ELSID SA is one of the world leading producers of silicon carbide, graphite, calcined petroleum coke, graphite electrodes, Söderberg paste and carbon blocks. Continuing investments in research and development gives ELSID the possibility to provide highest quality products.
New Regional office in North and South America
Since 1st January 2007 Tinfos Nizi SA operates two new offices in North and South America. Tinfos Nizi (US), Inc., located in Cleveland, Ohio enhances the sales and marketing of Mn products from Tinfos Jernverk AS, Norway and develops new sales of the existing product portfolio of Tinfos Nizi SA.
The South American office is located in Vitoria, Brazil. The activity of the Brazilian office is direct customer sales as well as strategic sourcing to the group's existing product line.
Euromineralien, Germany
In 2008 Tinfos Nizi SA and Elsid SA has agreed a long term strategic cooperation, whereby TINFOS NIZI SA has taken the majority participation in EUROMINERALIEN GmbH and is responsible for sales and distribution of products, while ELSID SA supply crude Silicon Carbide to be processed at the Duisburg plant. The plant with a production capacity of more than 20,000 MTY will primarily process SiC refractory grade, but also other ferro-alloys for the refractory and welding industry which TINFOS NIZI SA currently is processing at third parties facilities. The EUROMINERALIEN GmbH plant is of high technical standard. Following its establishment in 2005, EUROMINERALIEN GmbH was accepted as main partner by most of the European refractory producers using Silicon Carbide. EUROMINERALIEN GmbH produced about 10,000 MT of Silicon Carbide in 2007.
During the last decades, TINFOS NIZI developed into a well structured organisation with a good reputation in the industry. The Company is represented by high level professionals, high ethical standards and well developed management systems. TINFOS NIZI has a central position in the value chain; market intelligence and information yield opportunities for further growths.
TINFOS NIZI under Eramet ownership
In 2008 Eramet acquired the entire TINFOS groups' business and operations which included the TINFOS NIZI group. Eramet was one of the world's leading producers of nickel, manganese alloys and special steel and employs 15,000 people in over 20 countries. Late 2008 Eramet decided to divest the trading and distributions activities and to sell the TINFOS NIZI group.
